Introduction

The ‘Brussels Aanmeldingspunt voor personen met een handicap’ (BrAP) is a service for people with a disability living in Brussels. Since we are in the first place a Flemish organisation, we normally provide information in the Dutch language. With this short text in English we wish to give a brief overview of our activities.

What does the BrAP do?

BrAP stands for ‘Brussels point for disabled persons’. We help people with a disability living in Brussels to find the way to the services and facilities providing care for disabled persons. Together with the disabled person we explore his/her needs in daily life, and we look for services which can give the needed support and care in order to make life more comfortable. We also provide information by phone. Our help is free of charge and does not create any obligations.

Furthermore we promote the use of the CRZ in Brussels. Disabled people often experience troubles in their search for appropriate assistance or guidance. The CRZ registers the requests for care and helps to find an appropriate solution in the most urgent cases.

For whom?

All disabled people or presumed disabled people (autism, mental or physical disability, chronical disease, sensory impairment, deficits after a brain injury,…) under the age of 65, living inBrussels, with a preference for care in the Dutch language.

Examples of possible questions…

  • Where can I find activities for my daughter with a mental disability?
  • I would like to live alone but I need some help to organise the housekeeping. Which service can provide this help?
  • Is there someone who can tell us more about the development of our child with autism?
  • Are there any workingplaces in Brussels adapted to people with a disability?
  • It is difficult for me to live completely independent. Are there any possibilties to live together with other people and get some guidance in daily life?
